Hsiao-Cheng Sandrine Han, Eli Burke, Bryan Carter, and Ravon Ruffin, Keynote, Emerging Conversations

The 2020 rendition of Emerging Conversations occurred on October 24, 2020. It was held remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emerging Conversations is an annual art education symposium organized by graduate students in the Art & Visual Culture Education program at the University of Arizona. It is the only symposium of its kind on the West Coast in the United States. Emerging Conversations creates space for artists, educators, art historians, arts-based researchers, and community members, both established and emerging in their fields, to engage in collaboration and conversation. Emerging Conversations has taken many forms in the past, but is intended to be a welcoming and accessible space for creatives and educators from a variety of disciplines and settings. The symposium centers on a theme relevant to the discipline of art education, its adjacent disciplines, and current times. The theme of EC2020 is “Revision & Re-Envision: Beyond 2020—Setting a New Precedent for the Future of Art Education in Uncertain Times.”

Moderated by Dr. Gloria J. Wilson of the University of Arizona. Introduction by conference coordinator Kaleigh Korzyra.
