Teaching Chinese Language, Art, and Culture
Sandrine is an experienced art teacher, who taught art from pre-K to adults. She is also an award-winning art educator (2022 CSEA/ Provincial Affiliate Art Educator Awards; 2018 NAEA State/Provincial Affiliate Art Educator Awards).
Sandrine also holds a Mandarin teaching certificate that teaches Mandarin and culture from kids to adults, with or without prior Mandarin experience. Sandrine was an elementary school teacher in Taiwan, she was an award-winning Chinese speech contestant and trained many award-winning students and teachers for Chinese speech competitions.
At the same time, with a group of experienced teachers, Sandrine is also developing Mandarin language, arts, and culture teaching material for all ages. https://www.xiangculture.com/
About the learning lab
The learning lab is located at Sandrine’s residence. There will be less than 6 students in each class. Sandrine adjusts the course content and teaching pedagogy based on each class’s unique composition. How to help each student to have fun and learn is the most important goal for this lab. If you want to learn something that is not offered in the below schedule, please contact Sandrine directly, she will try her best to accommodate your learning needs!

Each student $35 CAD per class, each unit 4 classes. 每堂課$35, 四堂課為一個單元
Monday~Thursday (10am~2:30pm, any one hour) Adult Mandarin & Culture class
This is an on-demand course for adults. It can be online & in person. If you are interested in Chinese culture, but hesitated to learn Mandarin, no worries! We can start with learning Chinese culture, festivals, and history. In each class, you will learn just a few phrases. Slowly you will find out that you have the confidence to learn Chinese!
Mon (3:30pm~4:30pm) Advanced Mandarin 中文讀寫班 (online & 正體)
Kids aged 10~12, who are able to speak and listen to Mandarin, as well as simple reading and typing (writing) in traditional Chinese. In this class, we are going to learn more about Mandarin, from daily life phrases to reading and writing poem and articles. 這堂課是為在家以中文為母語的孩子們所設計的！孩子們在課堂上學習唐詩，成語，還有部首！讓孩子們不只會說，更能說得精采，寫得漂亮！
Mon (5 pm~6 pm) Art class 美術班
If you are interested in art and would like to practice different kinds of art making, this class is for you! You don’t need to be an expert in art, as long as you are interested in art, and would like to advance your observation skill and enhance your visual communication skill, come and join us! 與孩子們一起探索構圖，顏色，立體感；加強對生活的觀察力，以及將想法視覺化的能力！孩子們只要有興趣都可以來參加！
Tue (3:30 pm~4:30 pm) Mandarin Pinyin 中文简体拼音班
For kids aged ７~９, this class is designed for those kids who speak Mandarin at home and getting ready to learn how to read and write! 这堂课是为了在家说中文，但是却还不太会认字与写字的孩子们所开的！这堂课所教的是认字与拼音！从我们耳熟能详的传统故事里学习中文！
Tue (5:00 pm~6:00 pm) Mandarin Pinyin 中文简体拼音班
Kids age 10+, this Mandarin class is designed for kids who has some simplified Mandarin experience and know about pinyin system. In this class, we use the textbook 中文 as the main teaching matieral, and will include many more teaching materials based on students’ interests. 这个普通话课程是为9岁以上的孩子，有一定简体字普通话经验并了解拼音系统的孩子设计的。 本课程以”中文”课本为主要教材，另外增加许多歌曲让孩子们能从歌唱中快乐学中文！！
Wed (3:30 am~4:30pm) Elementary Mandarin 小一中文
For kids aged 5~8, this class is designed for those kids who speak Mandarin at home and getting ready to learn how to read and write! Sandrine uses Taiwan’s Grade 1 elementary school textbook as the teaching material in this class. 這堂課是為了在家說中文，要開始認字與寫字的孩子們所開的！這堂課所教的認字與拼字方式是ㄅㄆㄇ，是以台灣小學一年級的課本為教材，讓孩子們雖然人在國外，還能同步台灣小學的國語課教學內容！
Wed (5:00pm~6:00pm) Mandarin ㄅㄆㄇ 中文ㄅㄆㄇ
For kids aged 5~7, this class is designed for those kids who speak Mandarin at home and have basic idea about ㄅㄆㄇ ! This is a game based course, using fun games to help kids to learn from ㄅㄆㄇ to traditional Chinese! 這堂課是為了在家說中文，也有ㄅㄆㄇ基礎的孩子們所開的！以遊戲為主的課程，在一個小時的遊戲中，讓孩子能快樂地從ㄅㄆㄇ開始一起認識國字！
Fri (3:45 pm~4:45 pm) Where did my Mandarin go? 中文搶救班 (online)
Have you learned Mandarin back then, but, most of the Mandarin you have learned are gone now? When you write, you don’t know which word is the correct one. When you read, some words that you don’t understand what that means. This course is for students age 12+ . In this course, you will read articles, type short paragraphs, and learn new phrases! 您是否學過中文，可是大部分您所學的都已經忘了？您是否曾有過在寫字的過程中，不知道該寫哪一個字？當您在閱讀時，有些詞都不知道是什麼意思？發現自己怎麼變成打英文比較流利？這堂課是為12歲以上的學生所設計的！在課堂上，我們唸文章，找出不認識的字，打文章，並且認識新的詞彙以及常用的諺語！大家一起來，搶救中文！！
Fri (5:00 pm~6:00 pm) Beginner Chinese! 中文基礎班
This class is for teenagers who know some basic Mandarin and want to become more advanced in Chinese. We use daily conversation and fun activities to get to know more about Chinese and Chinese culture! 本課程適合已掌握一些簡單中文並希望進一步提升中文程度的青少年。我們透過日常對話和趣味的課堂活動，幫助學生更了解中文和中國文化！
Sat (9:00 am~10:00 am) Beginner Chinese! 中文基礎班
This class is for teenagers who know some basic Mandarin and want to become more advanced in Chinese. We use daily conversation and fun activities to get to know more about Chinese and Chinese culture! 本課程適合已掌握一些簡單中文並希望進一步提升中文程度的青少年。我們透過日常對話和趣味的課堂活動，幫助學生更了解中文和中國文化！
Sat (11:00am~12:00pm) Mandarin ㄅㄆㄇ 中文ㄅㄆㄇ
For kids aged 4~6, this class is designed for those kids who speak Mandarin at home and getting ready to learn ㄅㄆㄇ ! This is a game-based course, using fun games to help kids to learn ㄅㄆㄇ. 這堂課是為了在家說中文，但是卻還不會ㄅㄆㄇ的孩子們所開的！以遊戲為主的課程，在一個小時的遊戲中，讓孩子能快樂地學會ㄅㄆㄇ！
